On September 14, the Chamber Board of Directors and top-management of the Chamber Member Companies as well as the larger Ukrainian business community met with Petro Poroshenko, President of Ukraine, and Volodymyr Groysman, Prime Minister of Ukraine, and members of the Government to discuss realities of doing business in Ukraine and reform agenda for this business season in an open dialogue.
Stepan Kubiv, First Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, Yuriy Lytsenko, Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Nina Yuzhanina, Head of the VRU Committee on Tax and Customs Policy, Yakiv Smoliy, Acting Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Yuriy Terentiev, Head of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, Myroslav Prodan, Acting Head of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine as well as leadership of Law Enforcement Agencies and Investment Promotion bodies were among the participants of the meeting.
Among the key aspects the President of Ukraine highlighted in his remarks as main achievements since April 2016 were expansion of cooperation with the EU, certain GDP growth, visa liberalization, improvement of macroeconomic indicators, decentralization, energy independence and security, launch of judicial and healthcare reforms, decrease of single social contribution, launch of "Single Window" on customs, launch of electronic register of VAT refund. Main focus of the meeting and respective discussion was made on activities of law enforcement agencies.
Andy Hunder, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, voiced the issue of compliance of activities of law enforcement agencies with the current legislation and how it effects existing and potential investors as well as outlined 5 strategic steps required for delivering within the Ukraine's reform agenda. If implemented properly, these steps will give a way for other positive changes happening in the accelerated manner and ultimately – sustainable economic recovery of Ukraine. At the end of his speech, Chamber President together with Ernie Thrasher, Executive Director of Chamber Member Company Xcoal Energy & Resources, presented the first American anthracite coal, which arrived in Ukraine recently, to President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman as a symbolic gesture of a new stage of energy cooperation between Ukraine and the USA.
Since the meeting was a great opportunity to get key issues of the business community to the President's agenda and radar to continue pushing the Ukrainian state authorities for much needed reforms, Chamber Members raised key hot issues for investors as well as proposals on banking and waste management spheres to the attention of the Leadership of the State.
This meeting was organized in cooperation of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, European Business Association (EBA), and Ukrainian Entrepreneurs Union (SUP).
