We were pleased to host the first in 2010 Chamber “In-Focus” Meeting with Mr. Petro Poroshenko, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Tuesday, January 26^th, 7:00 PM, at InterContinental Kyiv.

The Chamber organized a special Chamber "In-Focus" Working Meeting with Mr. Petro Verbytskiy, Head of the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine of Ukraine.

During the meeting Mr. Volodymyr Slabiy, Head of the UkrPEC shared with all interested Chamber Members his thoughts and opinions regarding the Draft Law as well as participants had an opportunity to discuss the document receiving answers for questions.

The Chamber was pleased to host Mr. Suslov, Head of the State Commission for Regulation of Financial Services Markets of Ukraine.

The Chamber has held the meeting organized in conjunction with the ABA Rule of Law Initiative focused on corruption in permit system and administrative services and cooperation of the law enforcement bodies on the abovementioned issues.

On March 16, the Chamber had an "In-Focus" meeting with Mr. Mykola Azarov, Head of the Parliamentarian Committee on Finance and Banking.

The meeting was dedicated to such topics as current customs clearance procedures and regulations, priority areas of custom service operations, issues around determination of customs values, Draft Customs Code, future changes impacting these procedures, further reforms of the State Customs Services, etc.

The Chamber invited all interested Chamber Members to meet with Mr. Hryhoriy Nemyrya, Vice-Prime Minister of Ukraine who in his speech covered many areas of the European policy of Ukraine highlighting short-term and mid-term goals as well as success stories.

Considering the importance of this legislation for the Ukrainian economy and strengthening of its competitiveness the Chamber invited all interested Chamber Members to take part in a discussion devoted to PPP legislation with a Special Presentation entitled: Legal Basis for Implementation of the Public Private Partnerships in Ukraine: Ideology of the New Law on PPP.

The Meeting was dedicated to the overview of the legislative field on IPR protection, practical aspects of its implementation.

This time the Chamber was pleased to hold a special Chamber "In-Focus" meeting with Mr. Oleksandr Melnychenko, the Acting Head of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine.

The next in the ongoing series of Chamber "In-Focus" Meetings was dedicated to one of the most significant areas attracting attention of the Ukrainian, European and global business and political community - Energy Security of Ukraine.

Following our philosophy of being a partner in many projects bringing access to new mechanisms and instruments allowing companies to strengthen competitiveness and as the first step to establish a new PR community discussion platform the Chamber in conjunction with the UAPR proudly held the Round Table "PR in Turbulent Times: Approaches, Instruments, Results to Succeed" providing an opportunity for professional discussion of challenges which the industry has recently faced.

Continuing the series of Chamber "In-Focus" Meetings exploring the repercussions of the global financial turbulence on the business community operating in Ukraine, the Chamber held its next meeting with Mr. Serhiy Terokhin, the Head of the Parliamentarian Committee on Tax and Customs Policy.

The Chamber continuing its active dialogue with senior Governmental officials and communicating our policy agenda for the benefit of our Membership invited Mr. Borys Tarasyuk, Head of the Parliamentarian Committee on European Integration to attend the first in the Series In-Focus Meetings in 2009.

The Chamber was pleased to wrap up the 2008 series of "In-Focus" Meetings with Ukrainian high-level officials providing an opportunity to interact directly with the Deputy Head of the State Tax Administration of Ukraine.

The Chamber was pleased to host distinguished guest speaker, Mrs. Valentyna Zavalevska, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy, who agreed to share her thoughts with the Chamber Membership regarding possible impact of crisis on agricultural sector, plans and ideas of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine for 2009.

This time Chamber was pleased to host Deputy Secretary of the National Security & Defense of Ukraine, Mr. Borys Sobolev, who spoke on behalf of Mrs. Raisa Bogatyreva, the Secretary of the National Security & Defense of Ukraine. Mr. Sobolev updated the Chamber Membership regarding the current developments and negotiations taking place around the Georgian / Russian conflict with a focus on the economic aspects as well as briefed those gathered on Mrs. Bogaryreva’s recent working visit to the U.S. and results of several important meetings in the area of her responsibilities.

The Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine was pleased to host U.S. Ambassador William Taylor in the first of a series of Chamber "In-Focus" Meetings that will explore the implications of the recent conflict between Russia and Georgia with a focus on the potential implications for the business community in Ukraine.

On Monday, May 12th the Chamber leadership and representatives of the Board of Directors met with Mr. Bohdan Danylyshyn, Minister of Economy of Ukraine, Viktor Panteleenko, Deputy Minister responsible for investment and innovation policy and Natalia Boytsun, Deputy Minister responsible for bilateral trade relationships to discuss a variety of issues important for the investment community as well as to agree on the next level of joint activity.

The Chamber was pleased to hold a joint event recently initiated by the Chamber’s Healthcare Committee in conjunction with the Association of Pharmaceutical Research and Development– meeting with the Judges of the Supreme Economic Court to discuss the intellectual property rights protection in pharmaceutical industry.

The Chamber was pleased to hold a "Reforming Judicial System in Ukraine" Meeting with Mr. Mykola Onischuk, Minister of Justice of Ukraine as a guest speaker.

The Chamber was pleased to invite all interested Members to attend an “In-Focus” Meeting, which was devoted to the Ukrainian WTO accession with Mr. Douglas Kramer, Economic Counselor of the US Embassy in Ukraine as a guest speaker.

On Monday, February 25th the Chamber, continuing a constructive dialog with a new leadership team of the State Tax Administration, organized another meeting with the STA management to address specific requests of the Chamber Membership.

On Tuesday, November 20^th, 2007 a Roundtable on Brand Protection was conducted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine ("Chamber") in conjunction with "Delo" Magazine, Publishing House Ekonomika at their conference facilities.

To continue our dialogue dedicated to the variety of issues & problems within the sphere of protection of Intellectual Property Rights in Ukraine the Chamber was pleased to host a meeting with the representatives of the State Department on Intellectual Property: Mrs. Iryna Vasylenko, Head of the Legal Department, Mrs. Tamara Davidenko, Head of the Copyright and Allied Rights Department, Oleg Gumeniuk, Deputy Head of the Copyright and Allied Rights Department, Mr. Oleksandr Rudolskiy, Chief Inspector of the IPR Department of State Customs Service of Ukraine, Mr. Sergiy Lebid, Deputy Director of the Department on Fighting of Economic Crime from the Ministry of the Interior of Ukraine.

The Chamber hosted another in a series of "In-Focus" Meetings with Mr. Sergiy O. Biryuk, the Commissioner of the Securities and Stock Market State Commission as our guest speaker. The event allowed interested Members to participate in an active discussion rising important questions and clarifying many developments and updates related to the stock market.

The Chamber Agriculture Committee and Working Group on Certification were pleased to host Mr. Petro Verbitskiy, Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine and Mr. Volodymyr Gorzheev, First Deputy Head of the State Department of Veterinary Medicine at the Chamber "In-Focus" Meeting dedicated to the discussion of many important industry-related issues.

The Chamber's Agricultural Committee hosted Mr. Alex Lissitsa, General Director of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation as a guest speaker. The meeting was held with Chamber Members who are market leaders in the agro-industrial complex of Ukraine to discuss the outlook and policy positions of Ukrainian farmers regarding the current situation in Ukraine, including recent events such as the export controls.

The Chamber’s Banking and Financial Services Committee held another in a series of "In-Focus" Meeting that took place with Mr. Petro Poroshenko, Head of the Banking and Finance Committee of the Verkhovna Rada.

The Chamber organized another in a series of successful and informative "In-Focus" Meetings. This time the Chamber Members met with Mr. Yegorov, Head of the Customs Service of Ukraine, who agreed to share his thoughts with the Chamber investment community as to the priority areas of customs service reforms that are necessary to be implemented in Ukraine.

The Chamber held another in the series of 'In-Focus' Meetings with Mr. Vadim Vasiliev, Deputy Head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine. Mr. Vasilieev shared information with the Chamber Membership regarding the main directions of the Property Fund's activity as well as reforms in the privatization sphere as outlined in the Draft Law 'On State Program of Privatization' and the program 'People's Property'.
