The Chamber invited all interested Chamber Members to participate in the Chamber Knowledge Seminar "Corporate Conflicts: Analysis of the Methods of Hostile Takeover and Legal Means of Combating Them. Analysis of Recent Court Practice" delivered by the fellow Chamber Member Noerr.

This seminar addressed practical ways in which pharmaceutical companies can protect their intellectual property rights both inside and outside the courtroom. This seminar described how companies which register new medicines can protect their registration information from being abused to register generic drugs.

The American Chamber of Commerce and the European Business Association on behalf of OECD Anti-Corruption Network for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ACN) hosted an anti-corruption business consultation event.

The seminar explains the United States Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, how it affects United States and non-United States companies that do business in Ukraine, and how companies can comply with this law.

This program is a blend of tutor-led and experiential learning. It focuses on improving problem solving and decision making competence. As these processes often happen very quickly, the participants learned how to break the process down into stages, practice each individual stage and end it by putting them all together.

The seminar focused on the young but fast-growing Ukrainian renewable energy sector. As new solar parks go into operation almost every month, many market players want to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the high "green" feed-in tariff in Ukraine.

With the global financial crisis approaching its end, the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) activity is picking up in Ukraine. We see more foreign buyers looking at the Ukrainian market again as the sellers have finally adjusted their pricing expectations to reasonable "post-crisis" levels.

The Chamber in conjunction with the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) with the media support from "Business" newspaper hosted an open lecture on "An Incentive-Robust Program for Financial Reform" by Dr. Charles Calomiris, Columbia University Graduate School of Business.

PwC presented the major changes in VAT under the Tax Code, including registration requirements, taxable base, exempt operations, VAT input and VAT refund rules.

PwC covered changes to individuals' taxation (including foreigners' taxation) implemented by the Code, as well as other issues.

The Chamber in conjunction with Chamber Member PwC was pleased to host a Chamber COI Knowledge Seminar on the new Tax Code that was recently signed into law.

PwC presented the major changes in corporate tax under the Tax Code, including deductibility of royalties and costs of services purchased from non-residents; new rules of income and expenses recognition for tax purposes; transition to new tax accounting.

PwC covered how the Tax Code will change the way of administration of taxes, including the scope of rights of the tax authorities; conducting of tax audits; approaches to challenging tax assessments; new provisions in terms of penalties and fines.

The key objective of the Seminar was to rise awareness of the potential risk of Fraud in the Ukrainian market and advise the companies about what they can do internally to protect themselves from that risk.

The Chamber was pleased to host a special Chamber Knowledge Seminar “Investing in Georgia – Brief Legal Overview with Some Practical Tips” dedicated to covering the activities and benefits of investment opportunities in Georgia and the region.

The Seminar is aimed to gather the top- and medium-level Ukrainian State officials and decision makers representing executive and legislative branches of power to provide them feedback on the most important areas and problems in the agricultural sector of Ukraine from the point of view of investors and private sector players as well as share the best practices and keep discussions and building a dialog to promote the agricultural sector and ensure its future competitiveness.

We invited leaders and senior managers of the Chamber educational institutions, HR Directors and managers representing the Chamber HR Committee and the Chamber Business Management Education and Training Working Group as well as all interested companies to discuss the topic of "The Importance of Education Policy for Economic Competitiveness."

A Chamber Knowledge Seminar was held within the framework of the Chamber's "Competitiveness of the Ukrainian Economy" Series. The COIs participated in a Seminar delivered by new Chamber Member, Hay Group, on the topic of Conditions and Benefits to Lead Organizations by Effective Leadership Teams.

The Chamber Human Resources Committee Leadership together with the HR department of the Kyiv National Economic University (KNEU) started implementing educational program “HR University” which is expected to expand to other universities in the future. 

The American Chamber of Commerce conducted a Chamber Knowledge  Seminar"Mediation as Toolkit for Effective Dispute Resolution", organized jointly with Ukraine Corporate Governance Mediation Project of the IFC.

Human Resources occupy a separate important place for development of competitive economy of any country. Chamber hosted the Seminar "Investors in People" on Thursday, November 16, 2006.
